The best hostel in all of Roatan, Honduras (and maybe all of Central America). We found this place online Roatan Backpackers’ Hostel with the assumption we will stay 1 week here and move to the mainland. Well that turned into almost 3 weeks later. If it wasn’t for such a great place to stay with some new friends, we would of missed the hidden gems of the island.
The Atmosphere – Like to socialize with other travellers? This is a great place to find some good stories or advice about places we haven’t been to or places we never thought of visiting. Also you can get the best tips on where to go on the island and the best way to get there. You won’t find any better information from Mel who is more then happy to share everything with you when you arrive at her hostel (bring a pen and paper is my suggestion), she is full of helpful information.
Rooms – The hostel has a room for everyone, and has space for familes. Dorm room has 6 beds. There is a few private rooms with shared shower, or private bath to choose from. Travelling as a family and looking for a great place to stay, there is 2 very nice and spacious places here to choose from, the Casita apartment or the large Cando.
The Extras – Because Mel isn’t already a great host, she goes over and above to help provide a little more such as needing a towel, snorkelling gear to see the magnificent reef, the beach is only a few minutes away, laundry service, free Wifi all over the hostel, 5 gallon water jugs, organize the cheapest car rentals, hammocks to relax in, a common kitchen for everyone at the hostel and a social area to gather in. Access to the pool, for a morning swim or to cool off in the afternoon (we always used it to cool down). If you are lucky, you can catch movie night on the big screen with some popcorn and a drink of your choice! You will not find a couch or TV at this hostel, which is fine because there is so much more to do around here then watch TV.
The Lizard Lounge – Want to take a moment and enjoy the beautiful view, wander up to the Lizard Lounge. Here you can find some peace and quite or maybe it’s the social gathering location of the day. Either way, it’s a great place to sit down at day or night.
You wouldn’t find a better hostel host then Mel. Originally a Canadian who found her new home in Roatan, with her two boys. Like any traveller Mel loves a good story from every guest, and enjoys veraciously living through other travels until her boys move out. Because of Mels’ big projects, she always is improving the hostel, or adding on to the place to improve the comfort for her guest. For anyone traveling to Roatan Backpackers’ Hostel, you have a new friend awaiting for you here.
